Building Texas Show

Economic Development, Civic Leadership & Podcast Media

Description

The Building Texas Show is a premier media platform and podcast that explores the intersection of business, governance, and rapid economic growth across the Lone Star State. Hosted by Justin McKenzie, the show features in-depth interviews with mayors, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who are forging the future of Texas. I was tasked with a complete digital overhaul to better align the site’s visual identity with its mission of "Civic Illumination." Built on StoryDesk, the new site provides a robust, scalable home for long-form content, regional growth analysis, and civic education initiatives like "Vote Like a Texan."

Aligning Digital Identity with a State-Wide Mission

The Challenge

The previous website did not accurately reflect the show's professional caliber or its focus on high-level economic development. It lacked the narrative structure needed to highlight the diverse range of guests—from tech founders to rural mayors—and failed to communicate the "Building Texas" vision effectively.

The Solution

I reworked the site architecture to prioritize storytelling and regional discovery. Using the StoryDesk platform (powered by Next.js and Tailwind), I designed a layout that emphasizes the "Mayoral Series" and economic insights. The new design focuses on the "beating heart" of Texas growth, ensuring that the host’s deep-dive interviews are easily accessible to investors, civic leaders, and the general public.

The Outcome

The new platform serves as a central hub for Texas-sized innovation. It has successfully shifted the show's perception from a local podcast to a statewide authority on economic growth, providing a professional digital stage for the leaders who are shaping the future of Texas's urban and rural landscapes.
