Media & Civic Leadership

Building Texas Show

Scaling a media powerhouse through cohesive branding, digital refinement, and multi-channel marketing assets.

The Overview

The Building Texas Show—hosted by Justin McKenzie—is an influential platform exploring the intersection of business, governance, and community growth across the Lone Star State. As the show scaled rapidly—featuring high-profile founders, civic leaders, and Texas mayors—it required an elevated, premium brand identity capable of matching its growing influence.

I stepped in as a strategic design partner to lead a comprehensive brand refresh. This included overhauling their web presence, defining a multi-platform podcast identity, creating cohesive YouTube and social media assets, and building out a scalable framework for their ongoing marketing materials.

The Challenge

With content distributed across web, audio platforms (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iHeart), and YouTube, the show’s existing branding lacked visual consistency across touchpoints. The challenge was to create a bold, authoritative visual language that resonated with Texas trailblazers and local leaders, while ensuring the layout remained flexible enough to support fast-paced, weekly content production.

My Role & Scope of Work

  • Website Refresh: Streamlining user experience (UX) and visual design to cleanly showcase episodes, highlight sponsors, and capture new leads.

  • Podcast Visual Identity: Crafting the flagship podcast cover art to stand out in crowded audio directories.

  • Dynamic Media Assets: Building scalable, high-impact YouTube thumbnails and specific episode cover templates that drive click-through rates.

  • Marketing & Promotional Material: Creating ongoing digital and print marketing collateral to support the show's statewide outreach and mayoral series.

Key Project Pillars

Website Refresh & Digital Hub

The main objective for buildingtexasshow.com was to balance its identity as both a high-production media site and a community bridge.

  • The Solution: I cleaned up the interface to better feature the show's impressive roster of guests—ranging from regional mayors to economic developers. The refreshed design highlights transparent audience engagement metrics, improves navigation to the latest episodes, and gives prominent visibility to the partners and sponsors fueling the platform.

Multi-Channel Podcast & Video Identity

A great story requires an arresting first impression. I established a unified visual language across audio and video directories.

  • Podcast Cover Art: Designed a bold, authoritative primary cover that anchors the brand on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and iHeart.

  • YouTube Thumbnails & Episode Covers: Built a dynamic template system that balances dramatic text hierarchy with expressive guest imagery. The templates are optimized for readability at small mobile scales, significantly boosting click-through performance for the video series.

Statewide Marketing Material

To support The Building Texas Show as they travel the state—interviewing leaders from Fort Worth to Galveston—I built out a toolkit of marketing collateral.

  • The Solution: From social media promotion graphics to pitch decks for potential sponsors, these assets establish the show as a premier, professional network for civic and business dialogue.
